Life happens. Whether due to illness, family emergencies, financial stress, or sudden career demands, unexpected disruptions can derail your academic timeline. When these situations arise, staying on track in the classroom isn't always feasible—and managing your well-being must come first.

Depending on your circumstances, you have several academic options available:

• Class Absences: Brief, temporary disruptions should be communicated directly to your instructors as early as possible to arrange potential accommodations or make-up work.

• Course Drops: If a specific class becomes unmanageable due to outside obligations, dropping the individual course before the term deadline can protect your GPA.

• University Withdrawal: When a major life event requires your full focus elsewhere, taking a formal withdrawal allows you to step back completely, regroup, and prepare for a successful return when the time is right. Consult our Withdrawal page for details. 

Taking a step back is often a strategic decision, not a setback. If you are considering an absence, drop, or withdrawal, consult your academic advisor and student support services immediately to understand the policies, deadlines, and financial implications before making a final decision.

Absences

For any absences contact the faculty with supporting documentation for the absence.

• REQUIRED MATERIALS: 
  • Documentation on letterhead (for ex: doctor’s note) -OR-
  • Original material from source (for ex:  funeral, court, etc.)
• SUBMIT TO:
  • Respective faculty member for course 

Drops

A Drop (or Add) initiated by the student will have a $10 fee for each class change. University adjustments in sections/classes have no fee associated with changes. See the Registrar's page for additional details.
