Wellness Spaces
Need a place to unwind? The CAPS MindBody Lab and Sensory Space on the Denton campus are quiet spaces for any ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½¹ÙÍøÏÂÔØ student to decompress, relax, enhance emotional stability, and engage in self-care and wellness practices.
MindBody Lab
The MindBody Lab is a space designed to improve emotional wellbeing and release stress by attending to the reciprocal relationship between our mental, emotional, and physical health. The space consists of the following relaxation tools:
- A meditation egg chair
- Two self-paced biofeedback* software systems
- A massage chair
- A TV screen to play videos of guided breathing or meditation exercises, as well as other relaxing content
*Biofeedback is a mind-body technique that helps people to increase awareness of and learn to control their heart rate, breathing patterns, and muscle responses to improve overall health and wellbeing. The self-paced biofeedback software consists of guided breathing exercises, imagery that changes along with physiological cues, and interactive games. Heart rate variability and coherence are measured through a pulse sensor that can be worn on the finger or ear.
Sensory Space
The Sensory Space is a space designed to offer a soothing and engaging environment for students to regulate their senses, manage their stress, and improve their mood. The space features the following:
- Dim and soothing lighting
- Different multi-sensory fidget tools and objects
- Weighted blankets and stuffed animals
- An essential oil diffuser for aromatherapy
- Various types of comfortable seating
- Visually appealing and calming art
- Sound machines for white noise and/or other comforting sounds
