Learn to recognize risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) utilizing orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) assessment methods with an OMT for Sleep Micro-credential.

Open to undergraduate and graduate students in select dental hygiene programs, this is a new opportunity to equip dental hygienists to assess, educate and refer patients for further testing and provides a competitive advantage in employment opportunities.

This is an asynchronous, self-paced course that will require a minimum of 10 hours of individual study. 

Highlights:

  • Earners will take pre- and post-tests at the start and end of the micro-credential to assess changes in knowledge, skills, and attitudes regarding OSA.
  • Earners will be required to read relevant literature on OSA, view assigned webinars, and compare validated assessment instruments for assessing sleep quality.
  • Earners will discuss cases and considerations with other earners and the facilitator.
  • Students who earn this badge will develop cognitive skills to identify developmental and functional orofacial signs and symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea across different age groups.
