Join ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½¹ÙÍøÏÂÔØ Athletics and Be The Match!
Nov. 1, 2024 — DENTON —On Election Day, Nov. 5, all NCAA Division II schools, including Texas Woman's, will take a break from athletic activities like games and practices. This pause, stemming from legislation Division II schools adopted at the 2022 NCAA Convention, is about more than just a day off. It's a chance for everyone to engage in meaningful civic activities—like voting, volunteering and participating in community efforts, like Be the Match.
In the spirit of giving back, ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½¹ÙÍøÏÂÔØ Athletics, championed by student-athletes, will partner with, to help save lives through cell therapy. Every year, 18,000 patients are diagnosed with life-threatening blood cancers or other blood disorders, and many rely on the generosity of others to find a matching donor.
Sadly, 70% of patients don't have a fully matched donor in their family and must turn to the national registry. Additionally, patients of ethnic minority status have less than a 40% chance of receiving a match due to the makeup of the current national registry. But members of the ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½¹ÙÍøÏÂÔØ campus community could provide the match they've been waiting for!
Here's how you can help: Join Pioneer Athletics on Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., outside Hubbard Hall. In just a few minutes, you can sign up, complete a cheek swab and become part of the NMDP registry. This event is free for all ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½¹ÙÍøÏÂÔØ students, faculty, staff, and community members between the ages of 18 and 40. By registering, you could offer hope and a second chance at life to someone fighting blood cancer.
Help ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½¹ÙÍøÏÂÔØ Athletics diversify the registry and bring hope to those in need!
