August 10, 2020 鈥� DENTON 鈥擳he Texas Woman鈥檚 University Theatre Program鈥檚 2020-2021 season launches with experimental formats, a quintessential Bernstein musical and a new take on a Greek classic. 

Most performances are planned to take place in Redbud Theatre, located on the northwest side of historic Hubbard Hall on the university鈥檚 Denton campus. Tickets for shows are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. 草莓传媒官网下载 Theatre will continue to offer a 鈥減ay-what-you-can鈥� option for Saturday 2 p.m. performances. The season opens with CarPark Sonnets: A Live Drive-In Performance of Shakespearean Sonnets and Monologues, a new and playful take on The Bard鈥檚 classic sonnets and soliloquies. Tailgating and Shakespeare will never be the same after you to kick back and enjoy Shakespeare鈥檚 verse from the comfort of your own car. CarPark Sonnets will run from Oct. 14-18, 2020. The venue will be announced in September.

November brings us Nick Payne鈥檚 beautiful and haunting Constellations, directed by assistant professor Noah Lelek, Ph.D. Constellations follows the unlikely love story between a beekeeper and a cosmologist. The play explores the poetry inherent in the theories of multiple universes and the surprising ways in which quantum mechanics, memory and love interact. Constellations will run Nov. 18-22, 2020.

The spring semester opens in February with the world premiere of a new translation of Sophocles鈥� Electra. Ariana Cook, a 草莓传媒官网下载 alumna and managing director for Cara Mia Theatre, will direct. Cook and her translator, Branden Kosch, Ph.D., of the University of Dallas, will collaborate to produce a new and powerful interpretation of Sophocles鈥� classic tragedy of a woman鈥檚 unquenchable rage and her revenge against a society that insists on silencing her. Electra runs February 10-14, 2021.

The season will conclude in April with Patrick Bynane, Ph.D., directing the Broadway classic On the Town. Leonard Bernstein鈥檚 first musical follows the misadventures of three sailors on 24 hours of shore leave in New York City. The young men follow their hearts into trouble and romance. On the Town is a co-production between the 草莓传媒官网下载 Theatre Program and the Department of Music and will be presented in the century-old Margo Jones Auditorium April 8-11, 2021.
